Waterloo Ion Stage 1 LRT
Moye O’Brien represented the design-builder in developing and pursuing claims exceeding $120 million from the project owner for project delays and project-wide disruption. The dispute arose from the construction of a new light rail transit system in Ontario’s Waterloo region, designed to connect the growing urban communities of Cambridge, Kitchener, and Waterloo. The project involved constructing an 11+ mile dual-track system, 19 LRT stations, two rest stations, one operations, maintenance, and storage facility, a light rail vehicle car wash facility, and a wayside maintenance facility. The light rail system is integrated with GO Transit and VIA Rail, with LRVs running every eight minutes during peak hours.
